Who is this Group for?

This group is open to all young children who want to work on social and play skills. This environment is prefect to give all children the ability to work on social skills in a intimate setting that will help them to carry over these skills to other locations such as school, play ground, play dates, etc. This group will also help children with difficulties in social language, play skills, social anxiety, and attention issues.


Goals of the group

This group is focused on using a child’s strengths to engage, play with and have friendships with peers. The group is child-led to provide opportunities to resolve conflicts, communicate, and learn turn-taking with peers. Children will work on being flexible and expand play themes. Children will work on social and play skills which include:

  • Turn taking

  • Social problem solving

  • Being a member of a community

  • Coping with emotions that arise when playing with peers

  • How to be a friend

  • How to have a conversation

  • Conflict resolution

  • Perspective taking

  • Multi-step play themes

  • Problem solving skills

  • Increasing emotional awareness and emotional language

  • Imaginary play skills

Typical session:

5 minutes entering and greeting

5 minutes of drawing and talking about plan for play

30 minutes of work time of playing with materials and interacting with peers facilitated by teachers

10 minute snack

10 minute reflection circle to sing songs, read a book and talk about the activities and experience of the session.

Communication

Communication with parents is an important piece of work with children. All parents will fill out an intake form and we will set up a phone conference to discuss your child’s needs and how the group will meet these needs. We will also email summary of each session so you can discuss it with your child.
